CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme will help reduce carbon emissions by 11.6 MtCO2 per year
If you are an asset or energy manager you will be aware of the Government’s new Carbon Reduction Commitment scheme which began in April 2010. The Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) is a new regulation giving most of the UK's largest organisations and public sector bodies a strong motive to save energy enforced by regulation.
Thousands of private and public sector organisations will have to pay to monitor their energy use and subsequently buy carbon allowances for these emissions. There will be a responsibility for organisations to cut emissions and depending on the success of the actions taken towards this; organisations will incur penalties depending on league table status.
So how does this affect you as someone responsible for the estate portfolio for your organisation? Well you will have to effectively track your carbon for your organisation and look at practical ways of reducing CO2 emissions. Your results will be recorded and your organisation will be ranked in a league table based on performance. Any Bonuses or deductions incurred will depend mainly on how much you cut your emissions by compared with others, with adjustments for changes in turnover and, initially, for some kinds of early energy-saving actions.
